Rohingya minority is from west of Myanmar, this minority is one of the 137 minorities in Myanmar. Rohingya minority is suffering in Arakan state for decades. The government denied citizenship for Rohingya, claiming that they came from Bangladesh. The Rohingya people are living in fear and as they are deprived from all basic rights such as education, healthcare and right to practice religion. In the last four months, the Myanmar government committed crimes against humanity on the vulnerable Rohingy.
The international organizations issued several reports such as UN, Amnesty International and OIC, claiming that the security forces committed crimes against humanity. The last report issued by the OHCHR mission based on interviews conducted with witnesses, the report accused the Myanmar security forces in northern Arakan State of committing mass killings, gang rapes of Rohingya Muslims and burning their villages.
Responding to the reports, the government of Myanmar formed its own investigation commissions to calm the situation and the international community. The third commission formed by the military to investigate the widespread allegations, while itself committing all these crimes against the Rohingya. All these commissions formed by Myanmar government defend and deny all allegations.
Meanwhile, the UN special adviser on the prevention of genocide said: The existing commission is not a credible option to undertake the new investigation”, and Called for independent commission to investigate alleged human rights abuses in Arakan State.
Therefore, we urge the Myanmar government led by the Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for an independent and transparent investigation in coordination with international organizations to investigate the crimes committed by military and bring all those who are responsible to the justice. In addition, we ask UN, ASEAN, OIC and international community to exert more pressure on Myanmar government to provide security in Arakan state and grant the Rohingya their rights.
